Tongue tie Assessment and Division
A tongue tie (also known as ankyloglossia) is restriction of tongue movement caused by a short or tight membrane under the tongue (the lingual frenulum).
Some babies may benefit from having a tongue tie released, enabling them to breastfeed or bottle feed more effectively.
I will take a detailed history and perform an assessment of tongue function, before advising whether or not it is appropriate to perform a tongue tie division. I may also offer suggestions for other things to try first, as some breastfeeding and bottle feeding issues may be improved using other measures.
Tongue tie assessment and release are performed either as part of a home visit consultation, or an appointment in my home clinic in Leighton Buzzard. I am happy to travel within the wider area (Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Luton, Buckingham, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, Towcester, Bedford, Tring, Harpenden, St Albans and surrounding areas) for home visit breastfeeding consultations and tongue tie assessment and division.
I will treat babies up to 4 months of age. I have undertaken a training qualification with Wolverhampton University in order to become a tongue tie practitioner, and am insured with Hiscox.
Free follow up by email / text / phone is included following consultations and tongue tie divisions.
